About Greg

Greg Kerr | Your Member of Parliament

Greg was born at Annapolis Royal in 1947 and is a graduate of Annapolis Royal Regional High School. He later graduated from Mount Allison University with a B.A. and B.Ed.  Greg was previously a teacher at BRHS, Bridgetown.

 

Greg served as MLA for Annapolis West from 1978 to 1993 during which time he was in the Provincial Cabinet for thirteen years, eight of which were as Minister of Finance.  He has also held other varied portfolios. He was also a County Councilor for one term.

 

On October 14th, 2008 Greg was first elected to the House of Commons as the Member of Parliament for West Nova. Shortly afterwards Prime Minister Stephen Harper appointed Greg to the role of Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs. Greg was re-elected to continue serving West Nova on May 2nd, 2011. He has since become the Chair of the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs.

 

Greg strongly believes it is imperative as an elected official at any level to work closely with communities and local interests. These are the people who elected you and who you represent.

 

Greg is a life-long volunteer. A few of his volunteer positions included Vice Chair of the Annapolis Basin Conference Centre, Chairman of the Annapolis Royal Wharf Society and Board Member of Annapolis Valley Health, the District Health Authority.

 

Greg married Marcia Longmire, of a Fundy shore fishing family, and they have two daughters. Greg and Marcia owned a beef farm and operated a modest, logging operation in Granville Centre, where they now reside.
