Seniors sharing their history project receives federal support

DIGBY, NS -October 14, 2010- Greg Kerr, Member of Parliament for West Nova, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, and the Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State (Seniors), today announced federal support to the Silver Angels of Tri Town under the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program.

The Silver Angels of Tri Town will receive $25,000 for its project entitled “CPL – Tri Town’s seniors sharing their history” which will enable seniors to share their experiences and life stories with youth through digital media which will then be published in a book that will allow seniors to provide a positive contribution to the community and increase social participation.

“I am pleased to announce our Government’s support for the Silver Angels’ wonderful project,” said MP Kerr. “Supporting projects like this through the New Horizons for Seniors Program is just one example of how we are helping seniors make a positive difference in their own lives and in those of the people around them.”

“We are appreciative of the support from our MP Greg Kerr and the Government of Canada,” said Gloria Cook, President of the Silver Angels of Tri Town. “Through our seniors sharing their history project, we aspire to illustrate to youth what the lives of our seniors and the generations before them were like through the use of new technology.”
