MP Kerr joins the celebrations at the grand opening of the newly renovated Acadian museum
July 29, 2010
WEST PUBNICO, NS -July 28, 2010- Today Greg Kerr, Member of Parliament for West Nova, attended the grand opening of the newly renovated Musée des Acadiens des Pubnicos.
The Société historique acadienne de Pubnico-Ouest, which oversees the operations of the Musée des Acadiens des Pubnicos, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of Acadian heritage, with a focus on the history of Pubnico-Ouest and Yarmouth County. Today’s event is a grand opening of the newly-renovated facilities, which include an expansion of an existing building to house a fireproof, climate-controlled vault for artefacts and archival documents, and renovations to an adjacent building to allow for the delivery of Acadian-themed cultural programming.
The opening today was made possible in part thanks to the Government of Canada’s support for a number of improvements to the museum. In January, MP Kerr was at the museum to announce a $90,000 investment from ACOA and Canadian Heritage.
“Today, it is again my pleasure to be with you as we celebrate the grand opening of these newly-renovated facilities, which represent an important step in the Société’s five-year strategic plan,” said Mr. Kerr. “By ensuring safe storage for important historical documents and artefacts, and by implementing new cultural programming, you are taking proactive steps to preserve Acadian culture.”
