Federal Government supports seniors in Westport

WESTPORT, NS -April 25, 2010- Greg Kerr, Member of Parliament for West Nova, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, and the Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State (Seniors), announced funding for the Islands Super Seniors Westport Branch as part of the Capital Assistance stream of the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program.
Speaking at the Island Super Seniors Hall, Mr. Kerr outlined $14,500 in funding for the organization, which will be used to repair windows, doors and staircases, as well as improve lighting and drainage, enabling them to continue to deliver programs and activities for seniors and non-seniors.
“I am glad to announce this funding for the benefit of the local seniors and community as a whole,” said Mr. Kerr. “This funding will help encourage community members of all ages to continue coming together and participating in programs and activities.”
“We appreciate our MP Greg Kerr coming out here today to announce this funding from the federal government.” said Carol Welch, Project Manager for the Islands Super Seniors Westport Branch. “This funding will help us to complete necessary upgrades and renovations to continue to host activities for our local seniors and other community members.”
