MP Greg Kerr participates in “lunch and learn” session with local seniors
February 18, 2010
DIGBY, NS – February 18, 2010 - Today Greg Kerr, Member of Parliament for West Nova, attended a “lunch and learn” session organized by the Digby Clare Mental Health Volunteers.
The session today is part of the Digby Clare Mental Health Volunteers project: Seniors’ Healthy Lunch & Learn. The project was made possible in part due to $19,950 in funding the organization received under the Community Participation and Leadership component of the New Horizons for Seniors Program, provided by the Government of Canada.
“I am pleased to directly participate in one of these informative ‘lunch and learn’ sessions,” said Mr. Kerr. “Projects like these provide great opportunities for our local seniors to contribute to the community through social participation and active learning.”
The Digby Clare Mental Health Volunteers’ “lunch and learn” project allows seniors to participate in information sessions on various topics that are important to them such as ageing and depression.
“We hope to bring isolated seniors out to take part in these sessions and interact with their more active peers. We will be providing accessible transportation for those who have mobility challenges so that nobody is excluded.” said John Roswell, Program Coordinator with the Digby Clare Mental Health Volunteers. “We appreciate the support from Mr. Kerr and the Government of Canada. This funding will go a long way in ensuring our seniors’ project is a success.”
