MP Kerr announces federal support for seniors’ project in Lower East Pubnico

LOWER EAST PUBNICO, NS -November 8, 2010- Today Greg Kerr, Member of Parliament for West Nova, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, and the Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State (Seniors), today announced funding for a seniors project in Lower East Pubnico under the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program.

MP Kerr announced $22,808 for the East Side Community Centre’s project entitled, “East Side Seniors’ Activities”. Through this project, seniors will organize and participate in physical and recreational activities such as line dancing, scrap booking, yoga and computer classes that will promote active living and increase social participation.

“I am pleased to be here today to announce our government’s support,” said MP Kerr. “Through the New Horizons for Seniors Program, we are helping seniors make a positive difference in their own lives and within their community as a whole.”

“We appreciate the support from our MP Greg Kerr and the Government of Canada,” said Michelle Amirault, Board Member of the East Side Community Centre. “Through our project, we aim to have our seniors come out and feel more at ease with their peers and try new activities.”
